Varese Retrocomputing is just around the corner

September 17 is just around the corner, and vintage computer enthusiasts will soon immerse themselves in the retro atmosphere of the Varese Retrocomputing 2023! This event promises to take tech enthusiasts back in time, allowing them to relive the golden age of computers and video games.

The exhibition

The event features an exceptional display of vintage computers and consoles, offering a comprehensive overview of the machines that shaped the previous technological era.

• In commemoration of Gianni BBK: Atari Falcon, Sam Coupe’, console Tank Battle (TelePartner).
• ESCoP: At the dawn of personal computing, the first computers between 1975 and 1980. Altair+Digital VT100 terminal, Radio Shack Trs80, Apple ][, Commodore PET 2001.
• Michel Mammoliti: the eclectic combination of Atari and vintage keyboards with MIDI interface and themed demos.
• RetroCampus (Carlo Santagostino, Stefano Paganini, Davide Gatti, Francesco Sblendorio, Claudio Parmigiani, Antonio Bonanno, Nicola Avanzi, Giuseppe Negro and Giovanni Caristi): an incredible display that includes the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the Vectrex, Sol 20, Minitel, Apple 1 replica, Olivetti M10, PONG consoles and many other retro gems.
• Fabio Massa: retroconsole, the charm of the MSX VG8020 and MSX2 VG8220.
• Davide Bressanini: the Commodore Amiga CD32, the Cube CD32, and a number of original expansions and software.
• Giuliano Mingarelli: back to the past with the Z80NE (Nuova Elettronica's assembly box computer) and the ADM-3A terminal.
• Gabriele Petino: super collection of Amiga 500+, ZX Spectrum, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, old Siemens and Motorola mobile phones.
• Mario Prato: the clones of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, the Russian "Pentagon 512" and the Italian "Chrome 3", with the General Sound card, together with other unique pieces such as the DREAM 6800.
• Davide Barlotti: Scorpion GMX, ZX Spectrum 48K + Sandy Disk Interface + VidiZX Capture + Dot Matrix Printer. Through the camera, images are acquired that are printed in real time during the event.
• Eugenio Ciceri: ZX Next and other different models of the Sinclair family.
• Andrea Contato: Cabel Electronic console collection of Curno (BG), monograph on the history of Cabel.
• Marco Petino: a dive into past 3D modeling with the Commodore Amiga 3000.
• Vincenzo Bono: Commodore Vic20, Commodore 16, Commodore 64, Commodore 128 Neo and vintage software.
• Luca and Matteo Baldi: a touch of modernity with applications based on Unreal Engine 5.
• Simone Nasa, Riccardo Mennen: modern vintage computer accessories, Commodore Vic20 + SD2IEC + LCD 14", Commodore 64 biscuit + Kung Fu Flash, Amiga 500 + Gotek integrated.

• ChatGPT on the Commodore 64? Is it possible to connect 40-year-old vintage computers to the Internet? Let's discover the surprising possibilities with Francesco Sblendorio of RetroCampus.

• Artificial Intelligence: is it really new? The past meets the present: how Artificial Intelligence algorithms were used in the past and are used today in video games. A conversation with Carlo Santagostino, the computer science professor of the program "Il Collegio".

• AStISI: an association to preserve a historical heritage of computers and knowledge in Canton Ticino. AStISI was born from the passion of Prof. Spinedi, who worked for years in the engineering school of the Canton Ticino merged 25 years ago in SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland) where he was first director of the Department of Computer Science and Electronics then responsible for basic training (bachelor and master) at the Department of Innovative Technologies and which has preserved its historical IT heritage. He tells us the story himself.
